Terms & Conditions

The terms that apply when you use this website and buy from us. Last updated 13 July 2026.

Who You Are Buying From

This website is operated by Ardis Systems Limited t/a Ardis Books, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 02355428), 3 Mill Street, Titchfield, Fareham, Hampshire, PO14 4AB, United Kingdom. Contact: enquiries@ardis.co.uk. “You” means the customer using this site.

Using This Website

By using this website you agree to these terms. We may update them from time to time; the version that applies to your order is the one published when you place it. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Products & Descriptions

Every book we sell is pre-loved and unique. Each is described and graded as accurately as we can, and photographs form part of the description. Minor variations consistent with a second-hand book are to be expected; anything significant is stated in the listing. If an item you receive is materially different from its description, see the returns section below.

Pricing & Availability

Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP). Printed books are zero-rated for UK VAT. Each book is a single copy sold on a first-come, first-served basis; during checkout your books are reserved for 15 minutes while you pay, and leaving checkout releases them for other buyers. We may also list the same book on other platforms, so in rare cases an item can sell elsewhere moments before your payment completes — if that happens we will tell you promptly and refund you in full. We reserve the right to correct obvious pricing errors before accepting an order.

Orders & Payment

Your order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when your payment succeeds and we send the order confirmation email. Payment is taken at checkout by PayPal, with your PayPal account or by debit or credit card; we never see or store your card details. Delivery costs are shown before you pay: within the UK you choose Royal Mail Tracked 24 or Tracked 48 priced by weight, and international delivery is a single tracked service priced by destination and weight.

Delivery

We dispatch within one to two working days of payment. You will receive an email when your order is posted, including tracking where applicable. International customers are responsible for any customs duties or import taxes charged in the destination country; these are outside our control and not included in our prices.

Your Right to Cancel (14 Days)

As a UK/EU consumer buying at a distance, you may cancel your order for any reason within 14 days of the day you (or someone you nominate) receive the books. You then have a further 14 days to send them back. To cancel, email orders@ardis.co.uk with your order reference.

We will refund the full price plus the cost of standard delivery (any premium over our cheapest delivery option is not refundable) within 14 days of receiving the books back, using your original payment method. You are responsible for the cost of returning the books and for taking reasonable care of them; we may reduce the refund if their value has been diminished by handling beyond what a bookshop would allow.

Faulty or Misdescribed Items

Separately from the right to cancel, if a book arrives damaged, is not the one you ordered, or is materially different from its description, contact us within 14 days of receipt and we will refund you in full and cover reasonable return postage. (As every book we sell is a single, unique copy, we are usually unable to offer a replacement.) Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must match their description — for a described second-hand book, that means the condition stated in the listing.

Liability & Law

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Otherwise, our liability to you in connection with an order is limited to the amount you paid for it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in the courts of England and Wales (or your local UK courts if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland). The EU Online Dispute Resolution platform is no longer available to UK consumers; if we cannot resolve a complaint, you may be able to use a certified alternative dispute resolution provider, though we are not obliged to participate.

These terms are provided in good faith and reviewed periodically. They do not affect your statutory rights.
