Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur - The Baburnama (Published in by The Folio Society in 2013. Quarter-bound in leather with Modigliani paper sides and gilded top page edges. Blocked and printed with a design by Neil Gower. Set in Granjon. 608 pages. Frontispiece and 48 pages of colour plates. All illustrations taken from the British Library manuscript of the Baburnama (Or. 3714) and are copyright of The British Library Board. Book size: 11" × 7.25". One of the classics of world literature, in a fine edition introduced by J.P. Losty and Salman Rushdie. With 49 pages of colour plates of exquisite Mughal miniatures commissioned by Akbar the Great, Babur's grandson. Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur (1483–1530) was the founder of the Mughal Empire in India. He was also the author of the earliest known work of autobiography in Islamic literature. In frank and candid prose Babur describes his accession to the throne at the age of 12; fleeing his birthplace of Fergana to avoid murderous relatives; his dramatic capture of Kabul, the city he would love all his life; and his conquest of Hindustan. This is both a classic memoir and a fascinating insight into the foundation of one of the world's great empires. )
