Ongoing task since
March 1999:
|
Web Site developer for my own company Ardis Systems Limited (www.ardis.co.uk) selling secondhand books and collectables. This has involved taking input catalogues in various formats (text files, Excel spreadsheets and hardcopy), performing DATA MIGRATION to a MICROSOFT ACCESS database, and providing an ODBC link implementing user searches of the database over the Internet. Tools used include HTML, IDC, ACTIVE SERVER PAGES (ASP) and JAVASCRIPT. Also obtaining high ranking search engine positions using WEBPOSITION GOLD to help tailor web pages for specific search engines. Also Webmaster for Parents Online, a site by parents for parents (www.parents.org.uk).
|
January 1996 to
April 1999:
|
Freelance Data Analysis and Tools Consultant for MOD, taken over from 1/1/98 by EDS/AFPAA, Gould House, Worthy Down, Winchester.
DATA MANAGEMENT of a Corporate Logical Data Model on ORACLE DESIGNER 2000 V2.1.2, which contains all Tri-Service Pay and Personnel information. Analysis, design and RAPID PROTOTYPING using ORACLE7, FORMS 4.5 and REPORTS 2.3 of a bespoke mapping tool to cross-reference flat legacy data files to DESIGNER 2000 metadata, for DATA MIGRATION of legacy system data and to support new project databases and the development of a Tri-Service MIS. Production of sub-system specifications usign WORD97 and EXCEL97 under Windows NT.
Technical team leading of two staff in the Analysis and Design using ORACLE DESIGNER 2000 and ORACLE8 of a Reference Data Management System to support the centralised recording and distribution of static reference data to the many pay and manpower systems that require it. Interface to a MICROSOFT ACCESS database under Windows NT.
Setting to Work of a DATA WAREHOUSE application to store historic data for the Royal Navy. This was hosted on a UNIX platform using an INFORMIX database. Data was captured in a conventional database, and then transferred to a DATAMART view based on a star schema design which was used for MIS query access. Setting to Work involved intensive reworking of complex, undocumented SQL code. Use of UNIX (HP-UX) and VI to build C shells.
Development of data models on SSADM ENGINEER to support proposed Navy pay and personnel systems, including all aspects of pay, pensions and ledger accounting. Merging of these models with similar Army and RAF models into a single model developed on ORACLE DESIGNER 2000.
Concept Study for a central database to hold strategic data for the Navy and interact with existing legacy systems. Identification of Business System Options taking into account cost/benefits, and physical considerations such as referential integrity and timeliness.
